Erased Altered eBook Jennifer Rush

You have got to read Altered first if you want to have a clue what is going on in this story. It is another great story full of exciting action, friendship and not being able to trust anyone. The romance between Anna and Sam was too paltry, just like in Altered and I, personally, hope Jennifer Rush is able to spice it up a little in the next installment. The book description suggests a love triangle, which really could have been explored, but, sadly was not. A real missed opportunity in my opinion.

Sam, Nick, Cas and Anna have been in a safe house for the last two months recovering from Trev's betrayal and the shootout that transpired at the Branch. Anna and Sam are now pretty much a couple but the romance is on the "G" rating and really could use a boost! Nick is still scowling and hurting as he remembers more of his own past, but won't share it with Anna and continues to act like a jerk. Cas plays a comedic if very minor part in this story.

Security footage at their local grocer shows someone looking for Anna and being kidnapped by Riley. Anna is determined to come to the rescue and enlist the help of Trev who left them an emergency number along with the files he gave them. He is able to tell them which farm house to search, but they are ambushed and barely get out with their lives. They rescue three boys and the person who had been looking for Anna, but the boys they rescued turn on them and they believe the Branch has come up with a way to activate the assassins from a distance. This makes Sam believe that the best way to protect Anna is to separate. Anna and Nick are supposed to go hide, but Anna wants to find her uncle and see what he knows about the night her parents were murdered.

At a very early point the reader knows who the betrayer is and wants Anna to just wake up before people she loves gets hurt, but instead she is lied to and more memories about her and Nick come back to her and even more about her sister Dani. Anna is confused and wants to trust her boys, but family gets in the way.

It is a good thing that there is more to come in the Altered Series as more mysteries about The Branch are revealed but not enough to make any sense. Jennifer Rush's says, "As of right now, my 3rd YA will be told from the point of view of seventeen-year-old Callie who had a run-in with Nick before the farmhouse lab. She remembers him, but his memories of her are still murky. I can also tell you that Nick will definitely be the love interest of this story. So there will be more shirtless Nick scenes, and some kissing too." (from Jennifer Rush's website).

This is apparently the end to Anna's story The action and the writing is very similar to the first one, so if you liked it, you will like this one too. I thought there could be more romance and discovery of why they had all been mind-swiped, but maybe in book 3.

There is a novella called Forged that shares Dani and Sam's romance. Personally I would have liked a novella about Sam and Anna's romance as it was too bland in the book. I don't want to see him being more romantic to her sister or kissing her as he hardly kissed Anna and was supposedly in love with her. Why is that authors keep writing novellas about characters that were supposed to be dead? Veronica Rossi did it with Liv and Sara J. Maas did it with Sam in her Throne of Glass series. Too sad.

There was two kisses and a suggestion of sexual activity.

Erased Altered eBook Jennifer Rush Reviews

Someone should really consider making these books into a movie. They are so full of action, suspense, and plot twists that I feel as if my heart is pounding the entire time I read them. I can imagine every scene on the big screen. It would be awesome! Erased begins after the events of Altered, with Anna, Sam, Cas, and Nick on the run from the Branch, still not totally understanding exactly how they fit into the grand designs this corporation has. Trev (sigh) is no longer with them, but he does make several key appearances in this story, thank goodness. Despite his actions of book one, I still love him as a character.

I decided to go ahead and reread Altered before I began this story, and I'm glad that I did. It has been a year since the publication of the first book, and it was helpful to be reminded of some of the nuances of that story before beginning this one. Jennifer Rush has created a suspenseful story where no one's allegiances can be presumed. No one can be trusted. Reading a novel, not knowing exactly who to trust, is such an interesting experience. It causes me to read every scene, not trusting my own feelings. I love that about this story. The Branch's genetic manipulations are even more disturbing than those introduced in the first book, and those manipulations make it hard for the characters to know what it real and what has been planted in their minds. So much suspense follows.

I still love Sam's character, but in this story Nick comes to the forefront. I always found him to be an interesting character ... seemingly an eternal grump, but with a deeper personality that was just waiting to be revealed. This happens in this story. Don't worry. There is not going to be any love triangle, but we do see that Nick and Anna have a deeper relationship than you would have guessed based on his open hostility toward her. I loved getting the chance to dig a little deeper into what is behind the angry, yet protective, member of this little gang. I thought that Jennifer Rush wrote his character perfectly because, although we were shown that there is a lot more depth and caring to his personality, he didn't turn into a sappy sweetheart by the end of the story. He still had his edge. Well done.

I don't want to spoil things by revealing the big introduction which happens in this story that throws Anna's life into chaos. But I will say that I was a bit disappointed in Anna in several instances of this story. She made some decisions that seemed so unlike the character I was introduced to in the first book. She was quick to dismiss her trust in these boys who had stood by her through so much upheaval, and she easily believed a whole host of people who had never shown themselves to have her best interests in mind. After living in such a world of distrust and suspense, I was surprised by her actions. Still, it did make me wonder how I would react if the same events ever happened to me. I probably would have done the same as Anna.

I enjoyed this book almost as much as the first one. I think that the one thing that probably keeps me from giving it five full stars is that I found some of the motivations of characters to be murky. I realize that in a story like this I am not meant to ever be totally clear about what is driving every single person. That makes sense with some of the living characters, but in this story some major players end up dead. It seems as if their story is mostly complete. Now there will be new villains to take their place. So I felt like by the end of the story I should understand a bit more about what motivated those villains to make the choices that they had made. Especially these particular villains because of how they related to the main characters. Unfortunately those motivations were not clear to me. The story is still wonderful and enjoyable ... just not quite a five star read.

I am super excited to read the final book in this series, but sad to have to wait a whole year for it. But ... THANK YOU Jennifer Rush for not ending on a cliff hanger!!!!! I am so grateful to have a book series where I can feel satisfied at the end of a book and yet still excited to learn more. I ADORE this series. Four stars!
